Official FEI Clean Sport App extended to Android Phones

Three weeks after launching its ground-breaking iPhone app for Equine Prohibited Substances, the FEI has today announced that the app is now available on Android smartphones.

The mobile application gives those involved in horse sport fast and easy access to crucial information on prohibited substances. When it was launched at the start of November for iPhone users, it was greeted with great enthusiasm by the equestrian community, already more than 2,000 people worldwide have downloaded the app and it featured third on the iTunes Store “New and Noteworthy” section.

The official FEI Android version is available on Android phones with the version 2.2 (or later) operating system and can be downloaded from the Google Android Market, using your Android smartphone. The official FEI iPhone app is available for download from the iTunes Store.

The Android and iPhone apps enable users to navigate the Equine Prohibited Substances database that has featured on the FEI website since April 2010.  When a searchable term is entered, a short definition of the substance appears, accompanied by its FEI classification and common trade names. A feedback function with automatic email acknowledgement allows users to seek further advice or clarification if necessary.

Users will only need to download the app once, the online database will be automatically updated to incorporate new substances after annual reviews of the list take place.

The Equine Prohibited Substances List app is the FEI’s most recent mobile phone application for the equestrian community. An app was developed earlier this year for FEI Dressage Tests for Eventing, Dressage and Para-Dressage.

Note

Research In Motion, the manufacturer of the BlackBerry smartphone device, is expected to announce support of Android at the end of 2010. The FEI prohibited substances app will be configured accordingly and made available from that platform.

The FEI has today launched a mobile phone application which gives those involved in horse sport much faster and easier access to crucial information on prohibited substances. 

The Clean Sport app allows immediate access to the FEI Equine Prohibited Substances online database, which was developed early in 2010.

The app will initially be available for iPhone users only, however the FEI is investigating how the technology could be adapted for other smart phones.

The app is available to download Free of Charge from today at the iTunes Store .

As well as enabling users to easily navigate the Equine Prohibited Substances database, the app also includes short definitions on each substance as well as a selection of common trade names to avoid confusion.

There is also a feedback function which will enable users to seek further advice or clarification, should they need to.

The database was initially launched on the FEI website earlier in 2010. Since then a number of small improvements have been made to its functionality, including optimisation of the search function and automatic email acknowledgement.

“This is a truly ground-breaking service for those involved in horse sport.  It will enable users to have finger-tip access to often crucial information about prohibited substances which is another huge asset in the FEI’s Clean Sport campaign,” said Harald Muller, FEI Director of Education & Standards.

The FEI is pleased to announce the launch of the FEI Prohibited Substances Database which is now available on www.feicleansport.org. The purpose of this new database is to provide clear guidance on the substances included in the Equine Prohibited Substances List coming into effect on 5 April 2010.
 
The database contains all the substances – approximately 1,200 – on the Equine Prohibited Substances List. It provides details such as substance definition, common usage and a few but not an exhaustive list of most popular trade names. Detailed instructions for use of the database and a feedback form are also available. It is important to search the database under the active substance and not the trade name before you use a medication, as simple trade names can vary substantially between countries and can change over time.
